2013 Municipal Elections in Pasco County

Candidate qualifying for the April 9, 2013, Municipal Elections in five of six Pasco County municipalities, began February 12th and ends on February 19th at Noon. The cities of New Port Richey, Port Richey, San Antonio, St. Leo and Zephyrhills have council or commission seats open and may be holding elections for voters residing within those city limits. In addition, the city of Zephyrhills will also be electing a mayor.

Aside from the standard requirements of voter eligibility, to vote in a municipal election you must reside within the legal city limits. This does not include owning a business within city limits, and eligibility cannot be assumed based solely on the city of your mailing address. One more reminder regarding the municipal elections; if you have moved into city limits and your voter registration address is not up-to-date, please notify my office immediately, or you may be statutorily required to vote a provisional ballot at the polling place. Preparation is the key to ensure a smoother election day for both voters, the staff of the elections' office, and ultimately the state of Florida.

Sample ballots will be available on-line at pascovotes.com after candidate qualifying which ends February 19th. At the request of the municipalities, there is no early voting for municipal elections, however, absentee ballots will be available at city halls beginning March 8th through April 9th, or can be requested to be mailed to you by calling 1-800-851-8754 anytime.

Historically, the turnout is low for municipal elections. However, voting in a municipal election for those eligible voters should be a priority given the direct impact that local elected officials have on the daily lives of citizens.
