Health care is an area where there may be elements of common agreement. It is important with the current state of congressional gridlock to pursue consensus
Occasionally, it is smart to back away from issues for awhile. Sometimes, winning a point of view becomes more important than the position taken. That is a bad thing and can lead one astray.
For example, discounting any position taken by the Tea Party or the hard right-wing in general proves counterproductive. Also those entrenched in conservative mantras have to take a careful look at the other side of the issue. That would never require agreement but might allow for some understanding of opposing points of view.
Obama care is a good place to start. Although I see value in the expansion of health care services to poor populations, I am not enamoured by the plan and have multiple concerns. Most revolve around the failure of the plan to adequately attack administrative costs. The escalating costs of health care are not addressed effectively and conservative concerns are well placed.

On the other hand vehement opposition to a one-payer plan or Medicare-for-All blocks opportunities to address fiscal restraint and the stabilization or reduction of health care costs. If all can agree that ideally every American should have access to equitable health care then we can focus on how to make such care affordable.
If there are solutions to challenges they are found in areas of agreement, not disagreement. The solutions to congressional gridlock require an ability to find areas of consensus. The alternative is the current slippery slope where little is accomplished and health care affordability (the example used) slips away from more Americans.
