Some of Our Most Precious Possessions

Make those precious, irreplaceable photos as good as they can be. Know your camera. Interesting and informative classes are available locally. An affordable seven-week course begins March 1.

In times of disaster, following the concern for our families, we frequently hear that among the possessions people have on their “must save” list are their photographs. The terms “priceless” and “irreplaceable” are frequently mentioned when speaking of family photos. It is those prized images of our grandparents, parents, and children that we treasure. Of course we also highly value those pictures of ourselves when we were young. These fleeting moments in time can only be retrieved in our memories and through the magic of photographic images.

But when those images are out-of-focus or blurry, we can only wish that a better job had been done capturing those “moments in time.”  It is the rare person that buys a musical instrument and becomes a great musician without training or music classes. Although today’s digital cameras are intended to be “point and shoot” and are often described as such, when we get our new camera home we will find that all the controls are not intuitive and immediately understood. Maybe we can take a good picture on the automatic setting, but what about all those other settings and menu options?

I encourage you to read your camera manual, with your camera in hand, then read it again and practice using some of those features. It is surprising what some of these cameras can do. If manual reading isn’t your cup of tea and you learn better with personal instruction and hands-on training, sign up for a photography class.
