Test of Time

A children's book that stands the test of time - loved throughout the years - "There's a Mouse About the House"

There are books we remember, as adults, that impacted us in our childhoods.  Images are imprinted in our minds, words echo through the our ears.

As a parent, I wonder what those books will be for my children.  I don't have any specific "children's" books that have remained with me personally, but at my first baby shower, guests brought their favorite books.  We recieved about five copies of "I'll Love You, Forever".  From the title, it sounds pretty sweet.  However, as I was reading that to my son the other night, I personally found it a little creepy.  The sentiment is nice, but it's also sad. Not a "test of time" book for me.

As I ventured into the land of Usborne Books, I've encountered numerous people who have known them "forever" they say.  They're new to me and as a parent, I welcome recommendations and advice.

A dear friend has a 21-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter.  While excitedly looking through my "kit" of books, she immediatelly grabbed the "There's a Mouse About the House" and proceeded to tell me she had it when her son was little.  She STILL has it and her 3-year-old daughter loves it!

It has a little mouse with a thin rope tail in a little pocket on the front.  Each page has a little slit within it that interweaves the mouse physically moving through each page of the book.  It's clever and ingenious! My almost 2-year-old daughter hoards it anytime I have it out.  Needless to say, I've ordered her her own copy!

It seems to be a children's book that stands the "test of time".  There's also a similar one with a squirrel as the main character that I hope to add to our home library as well!
