Driver Ticketed after Crash Closes I-75 Lanes Monday Morning

Three of the four southbound lanes were closed during rush hour.

A Tampa man faces careless driving charges after a Monday morning accident along Interstate 75 in the Wesley Chapel area.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Michael David Benoit, 28, of Tampa was heading southbound on I-75 around 9:09 a.m. Monday as Matthew Louis Werner, 32, of Wesley Chapel was driving in the same direction, ahead of Benoit.

When Werner stopped for traffic ahead, Benoit failed to stop, troopers said.

Benoit’s Ford struck the rear end of Werner’s Nissan SUV, causing it to overturn.

Both men suffered minor injuries in the crash, the patrol said.

Benoit was charged with careless driving.

The crash closed three of the four southbound lanes.
