As a change in pace to my usual commentary, congratulations are in order for the Tampa Rays baseball team. They are not a money team like the Yankees or some of the truly rich franchises but they held up this season through four play-off games in their quest for the World Series.
The Rays have nominal pitching talent with a closer that throws more wild pitches than strikes and exemplifies the old adage, "Better lucky than good." That aside, the talent on the field is excellent and has no lack of big hitters and exceptional field play.
The challenge is to bring their pitching staff up to par to go a little further next year. Manager, Joe Maddon must be congratulated engineering the team through the playoffs and although they finally went down in game four against the Red Sox, there is no shame in it.
Congratulations to the Rays, the coaching staff and Joe Maddon for an exciting season. With that said, do something about that pitching staff!
