Dr's In: My kingdom for political sanity!

King Richard III pleaded, “A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse.”  I have been overheard crying out, “Political sanity, political sanity, my kingdom for political sanity.” As with the ill fated Richard, nobody is listening.

Some are downplaying the importance of a government shutdown, but the fiscally concerned that rail against waste should realize that the initial cost of the shutdown will approach 1.4B and if it drags on, the register will continue ringing; so much for sanity.

So what’s a beleaguered citizen to do?  Not much! Of late politicians keep claiming they are doing the work of the people, but the people are enraged at the direction of their politicians.  The latest poll on congressional approval is – 10%! I suspect that is the lowest rating ever for Congress.  The 10% may mean that many of their own family are angered at their efforts.  I would suspect their approval ratings consist only of their mothers and fathers and a rare sibling.

Not to worry though, the public has a short memory for the disastrous actions of their elected officials.  After all, Nixon came back from the Checker’s Speech.  “I’m not a crook,” he cried.  Anytime someone tells me he or she is not a crook, you can be sure he or she is a crook.  I would put in the same category of the bigot who claims, “Some of my best friends are Jewish.”

And so it is with our elected officials when they start bleating they are doing the work of the American people you can be sure they are doing the work of their lobbyists to assure the influx of mullah, gelt, scratch – whatever you want to call it.  We must ask ourselves a question, why do we believe these guys?

Maybe a miracle will occur that will avoid the shutdown and save taxpayers a minimum of $1.4 billion.  I am afraid that is asking too much from these dimwits.  Me, I am the eternal optimist.
