
Parents eager to stock up on back-to-school gear might want to hold tight for a few more days. Florida’s sales tax holiday kicks off Aug. 7.
New this year, the holiday spans 10 days instead of three. It begins at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 7 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Aug. 16. During this period of time, shoppers will find their purchases of standard back-to-school gear, including clothing, notebooks, backpacks and other supplies, ring up at the register without tax included.
Here’s what the Florida Department of Revenue says is included in the savings:

- Clothing, footwear and some accessories that sell for $100 or less per item
- Basic school supplies that sell for less than $15 per item
- Personal computers and some related accessories up to the first $750 of the purchase price when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use
The department notes the sales tax break does not apply to:
- Clothing items that cost more than $100
- School supplies that cost more than $15
- Books that are not otherwise exempt
- Rentals or leases on any school-related items
- ·Sales of clothing, school supplies or computers at a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport
