Gators Track Sending Several Athletes To Regionals

The girls team fared well and placed fourth with 62.5 points and the boys got sixth with 45 points in the 3A-7 District meet.

The expected contenders did what they were expected to ... and then some.

Here a look at who's going to regionals and how they did at the 3A-7 District meet April 21.

Senior Nicole Woodard helped the girls 4x400m relay team take the district title. She also helped 4x100m team qualify in 2nd place. She actually had some competition in high jump this year from Brooksville's Tikiera Relaford. However, Nicole jumped 5 feet 6 inches and won it again.

Again it was a Brooksville athlete that gave Nicole a run in long jump. Raqurra Ishmar jumped 16 feet 10 inches; a very good jump, but Nicole marked it at 17 feet 5 inches. Nicole should have no problem getting through regionals next week.

Freshman Hallie Grimes continues to turn heads in the 400m. She was the only girl at the competition to break the minute mark with a time of 59.35 seconds. This obviously took first place in the 400m. Halley ran another amazing 400m race as the anchor leg of the district champion 4x400m team, coming from yards behind and passing Wiregrass Ranch and Springstead on the final stretch.

Teammate Samantha Austin, a senior, also made regionals, taking third place in the 400m and a leg in the champion 4x400m relay.

Junior Genevieve Mosich punched her ticket to regionals by taking the fourth and last spot in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.59 seconds.

On the boys side:

Junior Darin Patmon took the 3rd spot in 110m hurdles for Land O' Lakes with a run of 15.88 seconds. Patmon also got the third spot in 300m hurdles with a time of 42.36 seconds.

Sophomore Clayton Ward got the fourth spot for regionals in the 400m with a time of 54.20 seconds.

Junior Chris Wilkinson took the third spot in the 800m with a time of 2:04.18 minutes.

Surprise Freshman Tyler Stahl grabbed the fourth spot in the 3200m with a time of 10:19.43 minutes. Teammate Travis Nichols, a freshman, just missed regionals at the fifth spot.

The regionals take place April 28 at Harmony High near Orlando.
