Go Back In Time At Cayce Home Consignments Wine, Cheese Event
Relax in an elegant atmosphere of days gone by.
From the moment you step onto the property and look back at the garden, you immediately feel as though you’ve stepped into another time and another place.
Cross the threshold of Cayce Home Consignments and you might feel as though you’ve become a part of the movie, “Somewhere in Time” that starred Christopher Reeve and Jayne Seymour. The ambiance and themed décor of every room play out like scenes from various time periods.
Furniture dating from the 1800s up through the 1950s begins to take you on an adventure and at times a trip down memory lane as you recognize pieces of furniture or small accent pieces that you may have seen in your grandmother’s parlor. Even the rooster creamer reminds you of a French country kitchen with a personality all its own.

While on medical leave from her job as a high school English and drama teacher, Catherine Borkowski, who partnered with her mother, Carolyne Cole to open Cayce, happened to stumble across their present location and immediately began planning out what you see today.
The vision for a place of serenity and peace for customers started to come together as she walked around the property and the excitement of having a place where she could take timeless pieces of furniture and décor that normally would have been left in someone’s garage or attic and give them new life started taking shape. She purchased the property and opened 12 weeks ago.

“All I could think of was open the doors and let me play,” says Catherine. “I’m a creative spirit and I love to constantly create new rooms and themes. My poor husband never knew where the bed was going to be when he got home because I’m always changing things and moving things and letting those creative juices go to work.”
The creativity doesn’t stop with just Catherine though. Her husband David also gets involved in the decorating and themes that you’ll see at Cayce. “David has a good creative eye so I turned him loose on our room that we’ve named, ‘The Man Cave,” says Catherine.
There are countless pieces that each have unique stories to tell. “The Man Cave” is full of paintings and prints by well-known artists such as John Meyer, Teresa Pennington and Miriam Bertram. These pieces are signed and stamped. Other rooms are filled with items such as an 1850s mahogany Harvard library table that opens, which is unusual for that type of piece. A beautiful turn of the century tea cart graces the same room and speaks elegance from afternoon teas of a bygone era.
One exceptional piece is an antique clock made from German Black Forest wood from 1860 that possesses an elegance all its own. Another treasure you’ll discover while visiting Cayce is a beautifully handcrafted rosewood dining room set with matching chairs that not only would be appropriate for someone looking for a traditional dining room theme, but with the right accessories has the ability to be thought of as edgy and contemporary.
“I like to be able to offer things that people can bring home and call a conversation piece,” mentions Catherine during the story filled tour.
One of Cayce’s biggest fans is Angelica, who was one of their first customers and has been spreading the word about this unique business with a zeal unlike anyone else.
“The moment I walked in here the first time I felt like I was back in New Orleans. It felt like home,” she says of her first experience at Cayce.
Other pieces that catch the eye are the 1950s Italian marble table, the three singer sewing machine tables, a chic and elegant rooster that is one of Catherine’s favorites and the most expensive item there, which is a solid wood 1950s king size bedroom suite in excellent condition that would add elegance to any bedroom. For those ladies with a taste for victorian décor, the Rose Room is full of beautiful items that are sure to please.
Along with offering antique style pieces, Cayce also showcases pieces by local artists including Steve Goodrich who’s “Wolf Pa” handcrafted pieces of furniture hold a rustic and western theme. From square nails to the beautiful 100-year-old barnwood that he uses to create each piece, it is evident that much time and heart is put into every creation. Steve’s biggest supporter is his wife Karen. They are residents of Turtle Lakes.
“This is my hobby and it’s what I enjoy,” says Goodrich and it’s evident as you see the care taken to create each piece he offers at Cayce.
“The thing I am most thankful for,” says Catherine Borkowski, “is that in the last 12 weeks I’ve met people who will be lifelong friends as a result of opening Cayce Home Consignments.”
The public is encouraged to attend the regular special events offered by Cayce and to stop by with old friends and make new friends while enjoying a break from life’s hectic pace. Local vendors such as Villa Verde provide refreshments that will please even the most discriminating of palates.
