ICYMI: 'Walking Dead' Staffers Equip Little Zombie Hunter
The show's producers heard about Pasco County's little undead slayer.
Daryl Dixon might have some competition courtesy of a pint-sized zombie slayer from Pasco County.
In fact, the producers of “The Walking Dead” were so impressed with 7-year-old Spencer Holt’s zombie hunting prowess they recently sent the boy all the supplies he might need to survive an undead apocalypse.
Word of the care package for Spencer reached the ears of Pasco County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Melanie Snow last week.

“(The) producers from ‘The Walking Dead’ reached out to me in hopes of sending Spencer some items from the show,” Snow told Patch. “When the giant box of stuff arrived, I was stunned. They really went all out for this little boy and he deserves it.”
Spencer is the little boy Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco, his deputies and members of thecommunity treated to a zombie hunt in the old jail last month. Spencer suffers from a terminal illness, Mitochondrial disease, that is slowly taking its toll on the cells in his body.

As Nocco and company learned, the disease hasn’t taken its toll on the child’s imagination. When Nocco found out Spencer, who is new to Pasco County, has dreams of becoming a law enforcement officer and had always wanted to battle zombies while wearing a badge, the sheriff made it so.
In true Walking Dead fashion, Spencer got to roam through the old jail in New Port Richey last month with Nocco and deputies by his side. Their mission was to clear out a “zombie infestation” to make the structure safe. Zombies, played by drama students from Mitchell and Hudson high schools, added realism to the hunt while Spencer used a trusty NERF gun to take the walkers down.
Spencer now has an upgrade for that NERF gun courtesy of the show’s producers, Snow said.
“His favorite items in the box include a Walking Dead backpack and a toy crossbow,” she explained.
Snow said the sheriff’s office is blown away by the show’s gesture.
“It really says a lot about a television program’s production staff when they take time to do something like this. Very impressive and heartfelt.”
As for Spencer’s reaction to the special delivery, “The smile on his face says everything,” Snow said.
