Regular Season Ends Tonight for Land O' Lakes' Football Teams

Prep football fans have one more night of regular season action in store. Both the Gators and Seahawks take to the field tonight, Nov. 10.

Sunlake Prepares for Post-Season Play

The Seahakws (9-1, 6-1 Class 6A District 6) dispatched Central (0-11, 0-7) 42-0 in their last game. A regular-season finale against Gulf (3-7, 3-5 Class 5A District 6) is all that stands between the Seahawks and their first-ever post season appearance.

The Hawks will no doubt, keep their starters healthy and rested for a virtually meaningless game against Gulf. The big one starts next week with a trip to Ocala to take on the Vanguard Knights (7-2, 3-0 Class 6A District 5).

A win in the regional quarterfinals could set them up for a rematch with Hernando (8-2, 7-0) in the semifinals. However, head coach Bill Browning and the Seahawks don't overlook anyone and you can expect a great effort and thorough preparation for not only the Vanguard game but for the Gulf game, too.

Land O' Lakes is Out of Post-Season Action for 1st Time in a Decade

The Gators (6-3, 5-2 Class 6A District 6) will be sitting at home for the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade. While it is a humbling end to the season, it can't be looked on as a total loss. The Gators showed that they are at least in the top tier of the new District 6. They did knock off a very good River Ridge (5-4, 3-4) team last week 21-20.

They graduate a lot of talent, including seniors Kent Taylor, Ryan Bird, Darin Patmon and Shadow Williams but several core players will return.

The last hurrah for 2011 for the Gators will be a clash with Wesley Chapel (5-4, 4-4 Class 5A District 6) tonight, Nov. 10.
