Land O’ Lakes Man Killed In Tarpon Springs Road Crash

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday night on Tarpon Springs Road.

According to the agency, Ilias George Bouboudis, 72, was heading eastbound on Tarpon Springs Road in a Hyundai Sonata around 7:40 p.m. Bouboudis did not have a seatbelt on when he encountered a large Styrofoam block in his path. Deputies say he drove off the south shoulder to avoid the block and over-corrected left, rotating his vehicle counter-clockwise.

“As he crossed into the westbound lane, the right front of the 2005 Hyundai, struck the left front of a 2015 Hyundai Elantra, being driven westbound by Sunilkumar Patel, who was restrained by his seatbelt,” an email from the agency said.

Bouboudis’ was ejected from his vehicle, deputies said. The Land O’ Lakes resident was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but died from his injuries.

Patel, 56, of Tarpon Springs was airlifted to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition, deputies said.
