Man Dies Following Collision with Dump Truck

A 32-year-old Wesley Chapel man died following a collision with a dump truck on State Road 54 last week.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Jovan Contreras, 32, was driving an Acura RSX southbound on Brook Manor Drive around 8:08 a.m. Sept. 11 when the accident occurred. Contreras made a left-bound turn onto State Road 54 and drove into the path of an oncoming dump truck, driven by Juan Carlos Lopez, 45, of Land O’ Lakes.

The dump truck’s front hit the driver’s side of the Acura, causing serious injuries. Contreras was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment, but died Sept. 12, an email to media from the patrol stated.

Lopez was not injured in the crash. No charges have been filed.
