Meet Great Britain Tile's George Clamp

George Clamp knows tile.

Since he was 15 years old, living in England, he has worked in the tile business. In 2003, Clamp brought his expertise to Land O' Lakes with the opening of.

Great Britain Tile is a family run business that offers tile, wooden flooring and carpeting. His two sons, Chris and Steve, are also involved in the day-to-day operations of the business. 

Along with Josh Hogan, “the son I never had,” George says, and showroom specialist Amber McClellan, the business prides itself in being run by owners with expert knowledge of flooring.

Great Britain Tile has accounts in the area for many of the subdivisions including contracts with Lennar Homes and Morrison Homes. 

“We’ve done 200 of the 350 homes in Connerton as well as the clubhouse,” George says. Beef 'O’ Brady's, Pizza Hut, and Bed Bath and Beyond are some of the other commercial accounts Great Britain Tile has serviced.

Not only does Great Britain Tile cover the Land O’ Lakes area, George has accounts as far away as Canada and even a governmental contract at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. 

“We have an online store and many specialty items, which enables the customer to do a little legwork before they come in.” George explains. “They like that.”

George is very involved in the community. He was recently elected to the board of directors of the where he has been a member for eight years. He was also honored with the during the chamber's recent installation banquet.

“I always tell my family, before we buy anything, check with the chamber first,”  George says. “We’ll try to support everyone who is in Land O’ Lakes.”

An avid golfer, George is chairman of the chamber’s annual golf fundraiser. 

“We used to hold it in Plantation Palms,” George explains, “but since we moved it, we’ve had double the number of golfers and have raised $2,000 more.”

He is involved in the community in other ways as well. Donating to The Groves cancer fundraiser, being on the Wilderness Lakes architectural review committee, and buying ads in the monthly newsletters of neighborhood subdivisions is all part of the family business’ routine. 

Great Britain Tile also has a Community 1% Program. For customers purchasing with a check or cash, Great Britain Tile will donate 1 percent in the customer’s name to a charity, foundation, or organization of their choice. 

“We want to support our local community. I’d rather give 1 percent to a charity than a credit card,” George explains.

When he’s not working at Great Britain Tile, George sings karaoke at The Groves, bicycles through Connerton, golfs or fishes. 

“My wife and I love nature.  We like to set out food for the deer, and in our backyard we have a family of hawks. I love it out here.”
