NEW PORT RICHEY, FL -- The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to beware of a phone scam in which the caller pretends to work for the sheriff's office.
Pasco detectives have been investigating bogus phone calls over the past 90 days from someone claiming to be a Pasco Sheriff's deputy. The caller tells the victim they are wanted on an arrest warrant and threatens to put the victim in jail if he or she does not send money.
Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco asks anyone who has received such a call to contact the Crime Tips Line at (800) 706-2488.

"We will never call you to ask for money if you have a warrant," Nocco said. "As most people know, you have to turn yourself in to be processed through the judicial system to satisfy a warrant."
