Police: Professor Travelled for Sex With Minor in Florida

Michigan man arrested after arriving to meet 14-year-old juvenile for sex, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

A University of Michigan professor is accused or traveling to Florida to meet a minor for sex, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

James Daniel Cavalcoli, 51, will face federal charges for traveling across state lines to engage in illegal sexual activity with a minor.

Cavalcoli was arrested Friday in Weston, Fla. after traveling from Michigan to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old juvenile for sex, according to law enforcement.

He had made arrangements to meet the child through an undercover FDLE agent, whom he believed to be the child’s father.

Investigators say Cavalcoli was in possession of multiple digital devices, including a personal laptop at the time of the arrest. Those items were confiscated as evidence and are undergoing forensic examination.

Cavalcoli was booked into the Broward County Jail pending transport to Federal Court in Fort Lauderdale.
