Progress Energy Working on Multiple Outages in Pasco, Pinellas

Tropical Storm Debby has done more than dump heavy rains on the Tampa Bay area. She’s also wreaked havoc for customers of Progress Energy.

According to a media release, the company has restored power to more than 80,000 customers who had lost their power today. At 9:30 p.m., 35,000 customers were still without power, the company reported. Multiple outages have been reported in Pasco and Pinellas counties. As of 10:25 p.m., the company’s outage map showed more than 2,200 customers without power in Pasco. Another 6,450 were without power in Pinellas.

Progress Energy is anticipating this round of outages won’t be the last either.

“In anticipation of continued damage from T. S. Debby, Progress Energy Florida has moved crews from areas not affected by the storm and is bringing in additional line and service and tree personnel from neighboring utilities,” the release said. “The company is mobilizing employees to handle increased customer calls, to quickly evaluate storm damage, to coordinate line crew and equipment mobilization and to coordinate materials required for repairs.”
