
Update Dec. 15, 3:34 p.m.: The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Dennis Cox has been located.
“Although nothing has been ruled out, it appears Mr. Cox followed through with a threat to take his own life,” the agency wrote on its Facebook page. “The case remains under investigation and additional details will be forthcoming.”

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is asking folks throughout the Tampa Bay area to keep their eyes open for a man who slipped monitoring in Weeki Wachee.
According to the agency, Dennis Cox, 50, is a registered sexual offender. Cox disabled his ankle monitor and left his Hernando home around 2:17 a.m. Tuesday.

“Cox is listed as a Violent Felony Offender who is considered dangerous,” an email from the agency stated. “He may also be suicidal.”
Cox stands about 6 feet tall and weighs an estimated 180 pounds. He has brown eyes and short grey hair that is balding on top.
Anyone with information about Cox is asked to call the Hernando sheriff’s office at 352-754-6830.
