State of the Union Watch Parties Planned for Tonight

While many people watch the State of the Union address in the comfort of their own homes, some supporters of President Barack Obama intend to turn the event into a party of sorts.

More than 2,500 “watch parties” are planned across the country for this evening’s 9 p.m. address – two are scheduled for the Tampa Bay area.

According to a media release from the Obama Biden campaign, the parties are meant to bring supporters together not only to hear the President’s “vision, priorities and important policies for the year,” but also to prepare them for the work ahead in the upcoming election.

There are two watch parties planned in the Tampa area for the address – one in Largo and the other in Tampa. Both take place at private homes.

The address will air live on most major television networks starting at 9 p.m. tonight, Jan. 24. It will also stream live on the White House’s website.
