Sunlake Sophomore Wrestler Wins Medal At States

LAKELAND — sophomore John Ortiz finished sixth in the 112-pound division of the Class 2A state wrestling championship Saturday, taking home a medal from The Lakeland Center.

Ortiz, who entered the FHSAA tournament with a 42-5 record this season, posted a 2-3 mark in the two-day competition.

The sophomore lost to William Joyce of Plant City in the fifth-place match, but defeated Reid Karraker of Martin County and Johnny Frambo of Orange Park Ridgeview to finish as the sixth-best wrestler in the state in his weight class.
