Video: Tips For Surviving An Active Shooter Situation

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is urging residents to check it out.

With mass shootings making the news all too often, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco wants to arm residents with advice that might save lives should they ever encounter an active shooter.

To that end, the sheriff’s office recently shared a video on its YouTube channel that was produced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Titled “Run, Hide, Fight,” the video offers tips for surviving such an event, including putting a plan in place beforehand.

“If you can get out, do,” the video advises. “Encourage others to leave with you.”

In a brief introduction to the video, Nocco assures residents the sheriff’s office works to prevent such situations from happening within the county, but notes that is not always possible.

With that in mind, “the information in this video will help to protect yourself or a loved one if you’re caught in an unfortunate situation,” Nocco said.

There have been an estimated 73 mass shootings in Florida since 2013, according to the website ShootingTracker.com. One of those shootings occurred in Pasco County and several others in different parts of Tampa Bay.
