Watch: Armed Robber Smacks Into Closed Elevator Doors

A quick in-and-out armed robbery of an elderly woman on an elevator didn’t turn out quite as the perpetrator planned courtesy of doors that closed faster than the accused bad guy worked.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded around 9:34 p.m. April 29 when a 77-year-old woman got onto an elevator at 3099 N.W. 48th Ave. in Lauderdale Lakes. Surveillance video shows a man boarding the elevator right behind her. He turned to her, held her at knifepoint and proceeded to steal her purse, a sheriff’s office media release states.

With the purse in hand, the man turned quickly to exit, but found himself face-to-face with the closed elevator doors. The flustered man is then shown on film frantically pushing elevator buttons. When the doors did finally open, he fled onto the building’s fourth floor and down the stairwell, leaving his victim uninjured but without her purse.

Deputies are now looking for the man responsible. He is a black male with a medium built who stands about 6 feet, 2 inches in height. He was wearing dark clothing, sunglasses and a ball cap with the letter “A” on the front. The knife used in the crime, deputies say, was a standard kitchen variety.
