Wesley Chapel Man Killed In State Road 54 Crash

The accident happened Thursday morning near Eiland Boulevard.

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — A 90-year-old Wesley Chapel man is dead following a Thursday morning crash on State Road 54.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Hector Sotomayor was heading eastbound on State Road 54 around 8:48 a.m. As Sotomayor was approaching Eiland Boulevard in the left turn lane, Kyle Lee Burgan, 19, of Wesley Chapel was headed westbound on State Road 54 in a pickup truck.

A third vehicle, a Honda, driven by Richard Andrew Felipe, 21, of Zephyrhills was stopped in the southbound right turn lane on State Road 54, the patrol wrote in a report.

Troopers say Sotomayor turned in front of Burgan’s pickup truck. After the two vehicles collided, Sotomayor’s Kia Sorento struck the rear of Felipe’s Honda.

Sotomayor was taken to Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, but died from his injuries, the patrol said.

Felipe was not injured in the crash. Burgan suffered minor injuries, the report said.

No charges were filed.
