Affordable Christmas Brings the Spirit of the Holidays to Low-Income Families

LARGO, Fla. - (Dec. 9, 2014) - This holiday season, Current of Tampa Bay will provide lower income families the opportunity to purchase gifts for their children at one-tenth of the retail cost during Affordable Christmas. The event will take place on Sunday, December 14 from 3 – 6 p.m. at Greater Ridgecrest YMCA along 119th Street.

“Our goal is to provide hope and help, so parents can create a wonderful holiday experience for their children,” said Founder and President of Current, Jason Sowell. “It’s empowering for families to purchase items rather than accepting a free handout. Seeing the smiles and satisfaction on parents’ faces makes Affordable Christmas truly worth-while.”

This is Current’s first year sponsoring Affordable Christmas in Pinellas County. Toys for children ages 0 – 14 are being collected at Murray Motive in Oldsmar, Independent Bar & Cafe in Seminole Heights, Watermark Church in Seminole Heights, and Crossover Church in Tampa.

Participating families must be considered low-income and invited or referred by members of Urban Young Life, Pinellas YMCA, Integral Church, and Grace Church of Dunedin. If you would like to refer a family, you may contact one of these Current of Tampa Bay partners.

Grace Church of Dunedin, Watermark Church, Young Life, YMCA, Vistra Communications, Merchline, Skatepark of Tampa, Murray Motive, The Collective Genius, Integral Church, and Buddy Brew Coffee are providing support for Affordable Christmas. However, Current is still in need of sponsors, donations and volunteers. Items requested for donation include bicycles, skateboards, electronics, sports balls, art kits and more.
