The Florida Gulf Coast Center for Fishing Foundation, Inc., is helping to promote child water safety awareness. Child Water Safety Awareness Week is May 25th through 31st.
DID YOU KNOW? • Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of accidental childhood death • 40% of Caucasian, 60% of Hispanic, and 70% of African-American children cannot swim • Participation in formal swim lessons can reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%! • Pinellas County has 587 miles of coastline and over 65,000 private swimming pools.
To help support awareness of child water safety, you can buy a lifeguard chair for $500, a painted lifeguard chair for $1,000, or sponsor a chair for $1,000. The chairs will be placed in public and private settings throughout Pinellas County to help promote awareness.
