PINELLAS COUNTY, FLORIDA, April 10, 2013-- Glenn-Mar Marine Supply, Inc., the oldest marine distribution company on the west coast of Florida, was purchased on March 15 by Phil Secord, a long-time resident and marine business owner in Pinellas County.
Glenn-Mar was established in 1971 by Glenn and Marjorie Rabbass. The company sells marine supplies and parts to marinas, boat yards and other marine-related service companies. Ten years ago, retail customers were added to their roster. At its peak, Glenn-Mar had 28 employees and sales of $5.7 million.
New owner Phil Secord has been in the marine industry in Pinellas County for 32 years. A familiar name to boaters in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties, Secord currently owns SCI Marine Inc., an integrated yacht services company. His eldest son Nicholas Secord will assume the position of General Manager of SCI Marine.

“Glenn-Mar set the standard for marine distribution on the west coast 42 years ago,” says Secord. “I want to carry on that tradition – service, product availability and convenience.”
Steven Irish, owner of Steven Irish Yacht Restoration and a Glenn-Mar investor, notes, “Because Phil Secord has been in the marine service industry for years, he knows what customers need. Now he can support businesses who will meet those needs.”

Secord purchased the company after analyzing the boating market and Glenn-Mar’s business. “Glenn and Marjorie had a vision for the marine industry that I want to fulfill. I’m excited and humbled by the opportunity to own such a well-known, highly-respected business,” he says.
His business plan calls for product and employee expansion. Glenn-Mar has 13 employees, six of whom have worked for the company for more than 30 years. Marine products will continue to be distributed out of the company’s 26,000 square foot Largo warehouse.
