Dogs in the rescue area and adoption center are available to our rescue partners at the rescue rate of $15 and cats for the rescue rate of $5. (Our) animals are up to date on  all shots, de-wormed, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested and if positive we do the immiticide shots on the dogs prior to adoption!!  We are the only county shelter in the area that does this. Our dogs are on monthly heartworm preventative AND flea and tick preventative, microchipped and licensed.. AND we have a volunteer groomer who has been volunteering with us for 20+ years, so our dogs leave smelling clean!

Our goal is to get as many animals out of the shelter alive as quickly as possible while making sure that they are going to good homes or quality reputable rescue partners.  Not just any rescue can become a rescue partner with us – there is an in depth screening process for a rescue to become approved as a partner.  These rescues are all 501C3 not-for-profit organizations. They perform  in depth adoption screening process prior to placing an animal in a forever home. Our rescue partners take special needs animals which require hundreds if not thousands of dollars in care prior to being adoptable.  When a rescue partner is interested in pulling an animal, it is in the best interest of both the animal and the shelter for the rescue to take that animal.  The animal is going to get out of the stressful shelter environment and into a home or foster home environment.  In that environment the animal will be more closely observed, allowing better detection of health and/or behavior issues that need treatment and/or need to be discussed with the adopter to prevent an adoption return.

If you are not a rescue partner of Pinellas County Animal services please join us in saving the lives of our animals. How do you qualify to be a rescue partner? You can fill out an application on-line and submit it along with the other documentation that is needed (copy of your 501 (c) (3) or Not for Profit status, a letter of recommendation from your veterinarian, and names of all transport people and their phone numbers). Also our animal control officers complete a background check on each rescue. Animals go to approved rescues on a first come, first serve basis. These animals are fully vaccinated, tested for heartworms or FeLV, spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas.  You can also visit our website for more info at:http://www.pinellascounty.org/animalservices/rescue-partners.htm
