Conference To Prepare Professionals For Hurricane Season

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is urging medical and health care professionals to take advantage of the conference

LARGO, FL -- The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is urging medical and health care professionals to take advantage of this year's Hazards and Healthcare Conference on Wednesday, March 14, at the Central Park Performing Arts Center, 105 Central Park Drive, Largo.

The regional conference will focus on enhancing emergency preparedness skills for the upcoming hurricane season.The one-day conference, provided by the Pinellas Coalition for Health and Medical Preparedness, will include a tabletop exercise with educational modules on how to organize and implement your own facility exercise, including lessons about federal programs such as Stop the Bleed, the Strategic National Stockpile and Florida Healthcare Coalitions.

"The Hazards and Healthcare Conference is always a huge success, bringing together many community partners with the same goal: to make the Tampa Bay Region's healthcare infrastructure as resilient as possible," said Ashley Hoskins, DOH-Pinellas public health preparedness program manager. "There is a lot to learn after the very busy 2017 hurricane season, so opportunities like these are especially vital to ensure the safety of our community."

Nurses, therapists, social workers, nursing home executives and dietitians are among the health professionals eligible to earn continuing education unit (CEU) hours for attending the conference. The $119 registration fee is valid until spaces are filled. A continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments are included in the price. The conference opens with registration at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.
