Debby Damage Update in Largo

With today's sunny blue skies may have faded from memory. But here's a look from several city department's on the effect of Debby around Largo.

1. Largo Fire Responds to Debby. The fire department responded to 130 calls from 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning through 7:00 a.m. on Monday. That's more than double the average number of calls. Most of the calls were transformer pole/tree fires, storm damage and evacuations, according to Fire Chief Mike Wallace.

2. Sewer Overflows. Two sanitary sewers overflowed as a result of Debby. The first overflow was at Donegan Road and 10th Avenue SE. The overflow lasted 33 hours with about 495,000 gallons of wastewater discharged.

The second overflow  was at Starkey Road and East Bay Drive. That overflow lasted 26 hours with 150,000 gallons of discharged water.

Both overflows came from the heavy volume of rain. The city experienced more than 12 inches of rain in 24 hours, according to Environmental Manager Davor Soldo.

3. Largo Parks Damage. The parks staff responded to four calls during the storm. Trees were blown down on 124th Avenue, Betty Lane, 145th Lane, Valentine Trail and Hamlin Boulevard. Damage from a off of Walsingham Road included knocking down large trees in McGough Park and . The repairs continue in Largo's parks, according to Assistant Parks Superintendent Michael DePappa.

4. West Bay Drive Improvements Delayed. Because of Debby the city delayed the start of the until the week of July 2, according to a city report.

5. Highland Recreation work slowed down because of Debby. The . But even with the weather delays the project is on schedule, according to Facilities Manager Glenn Harwood.
