Eckerd College Program for Experienced Learners Hosts Two Open Houses

The Eckerd College Program for Experienced Learners will host two open houses in September, which will include discussions on how students can earn credit for prior learning.

The first open house will be held in Room 113 of the Franklin Templeton building on Eckerd College’s main campus, 4200 54th St. S, in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, September 17.

The following week, PEL will host the second workshop in PEL’s Tampa center at 1300 North Westshore Blvd., Suite 135, on Wednesday, September 24. Both events will take place from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The Program for Experienced Learners (PEL) gives busy adults the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree in a classroom-learning environment. Small class sizes and high-quality faculty create a premium college experience, along with the opportunity to network with other professionals. Students can take classes at PEL’s St. Petersburg or Tampa locations.

Working with academic advisors students complete a portfolio to help determine what prior experiences qualify for experiential credit, which may reduce the time and cost of completing their bachelor’s degree. Admission representatives and PEL alumni will be present at the open house to further explain what experiential credit is and how it benefits students.

Also, PEL staff and faculty will be on hand to answer general questions about the program. If prospective students can’t attend but are interested in the program, they can call or e-mail an admission representative for information.

About the Program for Experienced Learners: PEL is a bachelor’s degree completion program designed for adults. By offering in-person classes on evenings and weekends, the program will accommodate individual schedules. Ideal candidates for admission have completed some college coursework and/or have training or work experience that can qualify for credit.

PEL offers an honors program, opportunities to study abroad and membership to Phi Beta Kappa honor society, and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Classes are held at Eckerd’s main campus in St. Petersburg and at PEL’s Tampa center in the Westshore district.
