In recognition of Pinellas County's 100 years of independence from Hillsborough County (commemorated on Jan. 1, 2012), the Pinellas County Historical Society brings an engaging lecture series to Heritage Village.
Here's the schedule of "Pinellas By the Decades":
Sept. 11: "From Punta Pinal to Peerless Pinellas" (1842-1911). This lecture examines early settlement along the Pinellas Peninsula from the Armed Occupation Act of 1842 through the Civil War, Reconstruction years, and the period after the arrival of the Orange Belt Railway in 1888.
