Homeless Man Struck, Killed By Pinellas Sheriff's Deputy In Largo

A homeless man has died after being struck by a Pinellas County sheriff's deputy early Monday morning.

LARGO, FL — A homeless man has died after being struck by a Pinellas County sheriff's deputy early Monday morning.

According to the sheriff's office, at 4:55 p.m. Deputy William Morgan, 29, was driving a marked sheriff's Chevy Tahoe south on 66th Street when a man crossed in front of him outside the designated crosswalk.

Morgan struck the man with the front passenger side of his cruiser and immediately stopped to give first aid, but rescue workers pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office is in the process of identifying the man, who was homeless, and notifying his next of kin.

Morgan has been with the sheriff's office since May 29, 2018.
