Hurricane Irma Storm Debris Clean-Up Schedule In Largo
Contractors are removing debris from Largo roads on Thursday, while residential cleanup begins on Monday. And what to do with sandbags.

LARGO, FL — Contractors began debris removal on roads maintained by the City of Largo on Thursday, Sept. 14, while residential storm debris collection will begin on Monday, Sept. 18, the city says in a news release. Residents who can safely do so are asked to place any storm-generated debris on the public right-of-way between the street and sidewalk for collection beginning Sept. 18.
Residents are asked to separate the debris as follows:
- VEGETATIVE DEBRIS (whole trees, tree stumps, tree branches, tree trunks and other leafy material)
- CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION DEBRIS (damaged components of buildings and structures such as lumber and wood, wall board, glass, metal, roofing materials, tile, furnishings, and fixtures)
- HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (materials that are ignitable, reactive, toxic or corrosive such as paints, cleaners, pesticides, etc.)
- WHITE GOODS (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, heat pumps, ovens, ranges, washing machines, clothes dryers and water heaters)
- ELECTRONIC WASTE (computers, televisions, office electronic equipment, etc.)

Due to a power outage, the recycling processing facility is currently unable to receive material. The City of Largo will be diverting its recyclable material to the Pinellas County Waste-To-Energy Facility to generate power for the area. Regular recycling collection and processing will resume when power is restored.
Clean sandbags can be disposed of by spreading sand on lawns or landscaping beds, or residents may keep them for use in future storms.
If your sandbags have come into contact with water, city officials say you should not dispose of them in your regular trash, but they can be taken to the County landfill for free so that the sand may be recovered for future county projects.
The City of Largo's Debris Removal Contractor is seeking to hire local contractors to assist in the clean-up. If interested, callSam Dancer at DRC Emergency Services directly at (251)232-3660. Please do not call the City directly.
