Indoor RV Storage Facility Opening in Fall

This fall, recreational vehicle owners can store their on-the-road homes out of the harsh Florida sun in an indoor storage facility.

D's Storage, a warehouse on Walsingham Road just east of 117th Street North and west of the Pinellas Trail, recently underwent a partial demolition. However, most of the building on the nearly 5-acre site still stands.

Dean Alli, who has owned the property along with relatives for 20 years, said, “The front we ripped down. It would have to (have been) rebuilt, but that wasn’t feasible for us.”

Alli said the front of the building will allow RVs to drive right through a doorway for easy parking when owners don’t want to or aren’t allowed to keep them in their driveways.

“The neighborhood I used to live in didn’t allow RVs," said Shawn Johnson, a 7-Eleven clerk. Johnson, 20, works just a block away from the warehouse. 

“People who have that issue – if it’s reasonable – that’s convenient for them,” he said.

Alli said that’s just what he’s hoping for. “We’re looking for RVs and boats (whose owners) don’t want them in the sun 365 days a year.” 

Rates will be about $160 per month for indoor storage. There are outdoor spots available, as well. Alli said he had hoped work on the building would be complete sometime in August or September. “It will look a lot better when it’s finished,” he said.
