Largo Dives and Bars: Bogart's Oasis

This neighborhood bar does not bring "Casablanca" to mind.

If the year was 1811, instead of 2011, you wouldn't be surprised to see cowboys being flung from the windows and roughnecks smothering gulping shots of whisky from dirty glasses at .

Bogart's is just off of 66th Street and tuck inside a shopping center is. The large blue door on the outside makes the place seems like it's padlocked shut.

"We're a local bar with a country side," said bar manager Samantha.

Given this ambiance, it is strange that such a dive be named after the slick and cool Hollywood icon. But this irony is just chalked up to sheer ennui.

"That was the name of the bar fifteen years back when the owners bought it," Samantha said.

As watering holes go, this one offers a fair number of events to bring wayward travelers inside its doors.

"We have Texas Hold 'em Thursdays, All Day Bud Select Wednesdays ($1.25 for a beer, $6.25 for a pitcher) and Happy Hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.," she said.

Bogart's Oasis has a stable of domestic drafts on tap, which are sure to delight its bud crowd.

The crowd tends to lean older, but if you are going to see anyone under forty, it will be at night, explained Samantha.

With regard to entertainment, patrons can wend over to a few video games, throw darts or shoot some pool.

Although most like to sit by the bar, throw back some cold ones and tell a joke or two.

Walking into the bar is the opposite of walking into an oasis; it is dark and loud. Drinkers can feel anonymous, while simultaneously laughing with their friends.
