Largo To Host Seminar To Help Seniors Avoid Scams
The Largo Police Department Senior Services division is offering the third annual Senior Empowerment Day.

LARGO, FL -- The Largo Police Department Senior Services division is teaming up again with Aging in America Advocacy Conferences to offer the third annual “Senior Empowerment Day” on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1199 S. Highland Ave. in Largo.
This free event includes speakers on senior issues including fraud prevention, abuse and successful aging, vendor tables, door prizes and a complimentary lunch. CarFit will also be on site offering free car safety evaluations. Free registration is required and can be made at Event Brite, Aging in America or by phoning 1-800-530-7047.
Karyn Rizzo, author of "Aging in America: Navigating our Healthcare System," says the goal of the event is to empower seniors by educating them about what scams are out there and what tools and resources are available to them.

Largo Police Senior Services Officer Joel Quattlebaum also will discuss the current scams that are targeting vulnerable older adults, and the Pinellas County Consumer Protection Department will address potential fraud as well as the protections available. A “Panel Extraordinaire” discussion will outline best practices for aging proud and in charge.
Additionally, St. Paul United Methodist Church will introduce its Joy and Handicapable Ministries, highlighting the spiritual opportunities available for the aging.
