Largo Man Charged Following Fatal Stabbings Of Mother, Stepsister

Police have charged a 49-year-old man with two counts of first-degree murder following the deaths of his mother and stepsister.

LARGO, FL — Largo Police have charged a 49-year-old man with two counts of first-degree after they said he repeatedly struck his mother and stepsister with a machete-style weapon.

At 6:27 p.m. Wednesday, Largo Police were called to the 800 block of 3rd Avenue Southwest in response to a 911 call about a person with a weapon.

According to detectives, earlier that evening Wiley Stanley Mackenzie got into an argument with his mother over money. Detectives said he entered a bedroom occupied by his mother and stepsister armed with the machete-style weapon and began to attack his mother, striking her repeatedly with the weapon.

Upon hearing the stepsister scream, Mackenzie's father came into the bedroom and witnessed the attack. He told detectives that when the stepsister tried to leave the room, Mackenzie began striking her repeatedly with the weapon as well. Unable to stop the attack, the father fled from the home to call 911.

When officers arrived, they took Wiley into custody without incident.

The mother was dead when police arrived. The stepsister was taken to the hospital where she later died.

The family has requested confidentiality under Marsy's law, which protects the identity of crime victims.
