Largo Man Dies Following Shooting

The incident happened Monday night.

The Largo Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 21-year-old man Monday night.

According to the department, police received a call around 9:42 p.m. about a shooting at the Tara Gardens Apartments, 1630 Jefferson St. When officers arrived, they found McKinley Torbit suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say several suspects went to the apartments Monday to look for Torbit. When he left his apartment with the suspects, a confrontation broke out in the apartment complex’s courtyard. Torbit was shot during the confrontation.

Torbit was taken to Morton Plant Hospital where he died from his injuries, an email to media from the police department stated.

Detectives are not releasing further details in the active investigation, including the number of suspects involved or their descriptions. They say, however, the shooting does not appear to be random.
