Largo Police Boost Effort To Keep Pedestrians, Bicyclists Safe

Largo police officers will work in teams of three or four in areas that have the highest concentration of law breakers.

LARGO, FL—Following the traffic accident deaths of five pedestrians in Largo this year, both pedestrians and bicyclists will receive some extra attention from Largo police during the holiday season.

With the help of a High Visibility Pedestrian Enforcement Grant from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Largo Police Department will focus on ways to keep pedestrians and bicyclists safe when crossing Largo’s busy roads.

Largo police officers will work in teams of three or four in areas that have the highest concentration of drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists who are not heeding the laws intended to keep them safe. The times and days will vary according to the needs of the area, said Largo Sgt. Ann Starling of the Traffic Safety Unit. She said the officers will focus on crosswalk violations, bike light violations, failure to yield and jay-walking.
