Largo to Smoke Test Some Sewers

Largo will smoke test some of its sewers on Thursday and Friday.

Smoke tests are used to see how and where rainwater and groundwater are entering into the sewer collection system. The water can enter the sewer system through cracked pipes, missing covers, illegal connections and open holes, the city reports.

The smoke test also checks to see if sewer gases are getting into a building instead of going out of a roof vent stack, the city reports.

The smoke test schedule is Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. until about 2:30 p.m. The test will continue Dec. 7, if weather permits.

According to the city, residents may see some smoke coming from roofs and the ground. Report any concerns to the environmental services department at 727-518-3080.

The western boundary of the smoke tests will be around 72nd Street with the eastern test boundary around US 19 and 66th Street North. The northern boundary of the smoke tests will be around 142nd Avenue North and the southern boundary of the tests will be around Ulmerton Road.

Informational door hangers will be given to customers in the area, the city reports.
