Largo Turns a Page is a new annual event to encourage members of our community to read and discuss a thought-provoking book. Starting in February, the Largo Public Library will host a series of programs incorporating music, dance, culture, and cuisine to promote and celebrate this yearβs selection. The book chosen for the 2015 community read is Learning to Die in Miami, an inspirational autobiography by Cuban refugee Carlos Eire who came to America in the 1960s through the Operation Pedro Pan Airlift. In this moving true story, Carlos relates his experience immigrating to Miami as an eleven-year-old boy and the challenges he must confront to discover his new American identity. Check out a copy of Learning to Die in Miami and join us to unite the community in literacy, celebrate the vibrant culture of the Caribbean, and experience Carlos Eireβs powerful journey to become a true American.
