Largo Woman Dies Following Shooting At Apartment Complex

LARGO, FL -- One of the victims of a May 7 shooting at the Whispering Palms Apartments has died.

The Largo Police Department confirmed that Marguerite Williams, 59, died Monday as a result of the gunshot wound she received during a shooting at the apartment complex.

At about 9 p.m. on May 7 officers responded to the apartment complex at 601 16th Ave. S.E. after receiving a report of multiple gunshots. When they arrived, they found two women residents who had been injured by gunfire and a man, also a resident, who was shot at but not injured.

The women were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Williams, who was shot in the head and placed on life support, succumbed to her injuries on May 13. The other victim, Chantel Johnson, was shot in the neck and remains in critical condition.

Police arrested neighbor Kenneth James, 40, and charged him with three counts of attempted first-degree murder. On May 14, James' 40th birthday, those charges were revised to one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

He remains at the Pinellas County Jail without bond.
