Man Feared His Food Was Poisoned, Fatally Shot Roommate: Police

A 38-year-old Largo man has been charged with first-degree murder after being accused of fatally shooting his roommate Monday.

LARGO, FL — A 38-year-old Largo man has been charged with first-degree murder after being accused of fatally shooting his roommate Monday.

According to detectives, two unrelated men were living at the home as roommates on 6th Avenue Southeast. One of the men, Ryan Jacob Avedisian became convinced that his roommate was going to kill him, telling detectives he overheard the victim saying, "I'm gonna kill him," the previous night.

Detectives said Avedisian believed his roommate was attempting to poison his food.

Avedisian said he stayed up all night and then shot his roommate the next morning as he stood next to the refrigerator. At 7:21 a.m., Avedisian called 911 to report the shooting.

Avedisian was waiting for officers. The roommate was in the kitchen suffering from multiple gunshots. He later died.

The victim's next of kin has requested confidentiality under Marsy's Law so the name of the victim is not being released.
