Man Killed In Collision With Largo Police Cruiser

A 36-year-old Largo man is dead following a collision with a Largo Police K9 cruiser.

LARGO, FL -- A 36-year-old Largo man is dead following a collision with a Largo Police K9 cruiser.

At about 10:18 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, Largo Police Officer Thomas Dziamba and K9 Drax responded to a domestic violence report in which a man kicked in the front door of the victim's house. Dziamba was traveling east in the 3600 block of East Bay Drive with his overhead lights on and siren activated when a 2010 Jeep Wrangler driven by Christopher Griffin, 36, entered East Bay Drive in the path of the cruiser.

Griffin was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Jeep. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol may have been a factor.

Dziamba, 34, a Largo officer for three years, suffered a serious injury and was taken to a local hospital. He is now at home and expected to make a full recovery. K9 Drax was uninjured.

The crash is being investigated by the Traffic Homicide Unit.
