More Storms on the Way for Tampa Bay

Forecasters are calling for a strong chance of storms throughout the workweek.

Tampa Bay area residents hoping to be able to dry out a bit after the weekend’s rains aren’t likely to get much of a chance this week.

The National Weather Service’s Ruskin office is predicting a pretty wet week for the Bay area. Rain chances are highest Monday through Wednesday, set at 60 percent, during the daytime hours all three days. The likelihood of storms starts to diminish a bit on Thursday with a 40 percent chance for storms, but rises again Friday as forecasters anticipate a 50 percent chance for rain.

While the chances for storms remain high, forecasters expect a bit of a cooling to occur in the Bay area. Highs most days are set in the mid- to upper-80s with lows around the mid-70 mark.

Recent heavy rains have also given rise to the potential for flooding in the Bay area. As of Monday morning, a river flood warning was in effect for the Alafia River at Lithia. Localized street flooding also closed several roads throughout the Bay area over the weekend.

Motorists are asked to use caution when driving in the wet conditions and to avoid flooded areas.
