One Person Killed in Personal Watercraft Crash Near Indian Rocks Beach

A 40-year-old man was killed in a personal watercraft collision in the Intracoastal Waterway, according to Bay News 9.

One person was killed in a personal watercraft incident near Indian Rocks Beach on March 10, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Victor Vasquez, 40, of Indian Rocks Beach and Robert W. Turnbull, 34, of Seminole, collided with an object while on a personal watercraft in the Intracoastal Waterway, according to Bay News 9.

Both men were ejected from the watercraft. Turnball managed to get back to shore but Vasquez was unconscious. Efforts to resuscitate Vasquez were unsuccessful, according to Bay News 9.

Authorities are still piecing together the details and timeline of the crash. Around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night  emergency personnel pulled a person out of the water near 2507 Bay Boulevard, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

According to Bay News 9 investigators are trying to determine what the men hit and the length of time Vazquez was in the water after the incident. The accident is under investigation.

In Florida, from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise the use of personal watercraft is prohibited, according to Gary Morse of the Southwest Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
