Pinellas Park Patriot's Girls Track Team Takes District Crown!

Countryside and Seminole usually lead in District 5, but not this year. This year the track team made marked improvements on both boys and girls teams.

The girls improved from fifth to first in a 56-point swing, while the boys went from seventh to fourth in a 54-point improvement.

Here's a list of Pinellas Park girls that will be moving on to regionals:

• Freshman Deterrica Simpkins was district champion in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.70 seconds.
• Senior Christina Quay was district champion in 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.05 seconds. Quay took second in the 300 meter hurdles in 50.70 seconds.
• In the 4x100 meter relay team, juniors: Nikori Bailey, Abby Vivlamore, Jenna Sperna and freshman Deterrica Simpkins won the district title.
• The 4x400 meter team of, Senior Christina Quay; and juniors Nikori Bailey and Abby Vivlamore; and freshman Deterrica Simpkins took second place, qualifying them for regionals.
• Senior Andrea Ezell won district champ at 4 feet 10 inches, in high jump. She also claimed third in shot with a 33 foot 11 inch throw.
• Junior Jenna Sperna won shot with a 37 foot 6 inch throw, almost three feet further than second place Jalanika Whiting of Palm Harbor. Sperna also took first place in disc with a 105 foot 10 inch throw.
• Junior Abby Vivlamore took second place in pole vault with a 10 foot jump.
• Sophomore Brittany Galan took third place in vault at 9 feet 6 inches.
• Sophomore Jasmine Laska took the second spot in disc with a throw of  99 feet 5 inches and fourth place with a throw of 32 feet 6 inches. She advanced to regionals .

Here's a list of Pinellas Park boys that will be moving on to regionals:

• Jeremi Powell dominated. Powell won the high jump at 6 feet 4 inches. He took second place in 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.31 seconds. Powell claimed third place in triple jump at 42 feet 6 inches. He also got fourth place in long jump at 20 feet 9 inches.
• Senior Edward Galan claimed second place in pole vault. He tied for first place with a 14 foot 6 inch jump, but lost the tie breaker.
• Jimonte Davis got fourth place in 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.02 seconds.

Pinellas Park's 4x100 meter relay team won fourth place advancing them to regionals.

The 4x400 meter team took third place.

These athletes move on to regionals April 27 at 1 p.m. at Leto High School, 4409 W. Sligh Ave. in Tampa.
