Patriots Push Past Palm Harbor 6-1.

It was a tight competition through five innings but Pinellas Park scored three runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

Pinellas Park opened Firday afternoon by getting thumped by Clearwater Central Catholic in the finale to their 15 inning marathon. The game picked up in the top of the 15th with CCC up to bat. The Patriots walked two runs in before the bats started to ping for CCC. Before they got the third out, it was 9-2. They came back with nothing in the bottom of the 15th. Final 9-2 Marauders.

However, The Patriots bounced back in their victory of Palm Harbor University.

The first two frames were empty for both sides. Palm Harbor got Matt Kizer across the plate in the third off a hit by Zac Johnson.

Pinellas Park came back with two runs in the top of the 4th inning. The poor fielding that had been haunting Palm Harbor early in the game, hit hard down the stretch.

The Patriots added another run in the 5th inning off a Joe Vaskovsky ground-out. Then the Hurricane pitching melted down. Three consecutive walks followed by an RBI single from Jeff Detrano, loaded the bases and made it 4-1. Another walk made it 5-1 and a throwing error made it 6-1.

Acting Head Coach Clint Smith was happy about the rebound his team made after losing the tough one to CCC.

“Absolutely, 100%. We had some timely base hits and (Bradon)Grigsby pitched a great game,” he said.

Pinellas Park, while in the one-loss bracket, move on to play St. Pete Catholic at 5pm or 8pm at The Englebert Complex, Field #5.
