Police: DUI and a Monkey

A man traveling with a monkey on East Bay Drive was arrested on the charge of DUI, according to police.

Just after midnight on May 3, the pulled over a car, which was allegedly traveling at 70 m.p.h down East Bay Drive, according to police.

After speaking with the driver of the vehicle, the police observed an unusual occupant in the vehicle. A small monkey was riding in the truck, also, according to police.

The driver, Eugene Carl Kotelman, was arrested on the charge of felony DUI. Apparently the 36-year-old man had been arrested on charges previously many times for driving on a suspended license and for DUI, according to police.

Kotelman was taken to jail and the monkey went with one of Kotelman's friends, according to police.

Kotelman was released on bond around midnight on May 4. But he apparently did not stay out of jail long. As soon as he was released, he was apparently rearrested on additional charges, according to police.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrested Kotelman on charges of possession of wildlife and two counts of violation of Fish or Wildlife rules. While Kotelman went back to jail. The FWC took custody of the monkey, according to police.
